Authors: Nejat R, Sadr AS, Freitas BT, Murray J, Pegan SD PMID: 34319871 DOI: 10.18433/jpps31931 Abstract Purpose: SARS-CoV-2 infection is associated with substantial mortality and high morbidity. This study tested the effect of angiotensin II type I receptor blocker, losartan, on SARS-CoV-2 replication and inhibition of the papain-like protease of the virus. Methods: The dose-dependent [...]

Authors: Zhao J, Yang Y, Huang H, Li D, Gu D PMID: 32750119 PMCID: PMC7454371 DOI: 10.1093/cid/ciaa1150 Abstract To explore any relationship between the ABO blood group and the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) susceptibility, we compared ABO blood group distributions in 2173 COVID-19 patients with local control populations, and found that blood group A was [...]

PMID: 34796244 PMCID: PMC8420640 DOI: 10.1093/ofid/ofab358 Abstract Ivermectin is an antiparasitic drug being investigated for repurposing against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Ivermectin showed in vitro activity against SARS-COV-2, but only at high concentrations. This meta-analysis investigated ivermectin [...]

Cell entry of SARS-CoV-2 occurs via the interaction between its surface spike protein (SP) and angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 [...]

Authors: Menendez-Arias L PMID: 34118236 PMCID: PMC8188802 DOI: 10.1016/j.jbc.2021.100867 Abstract Molnupiravir, a prodrug of the nucleoside derivative β-D-N4-hydroxycytidine (NHC), is currently in clinical trials for COVID-19 therapy. However, the biochemical mechanisms involved in molnupiravir-induced mutagenesis had not been explored. In a recent study, Gordon et al. demonstrated that NHC can be incorporated into viral RNA [...]

Quercetin, a well-known naturally occurring polyphenol, has recently been shown by molecular docking, in vitro and in vivo studies to be a possible anti-COVID-19 candidate. Quercetin has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and antiviral properties, and it is characterized by a very high safety profile, exerted in animals and in humans. Like most other polyphenols, quercetin shows a very low rate of oral absorption and its clinical use is considered by most of modest utility. Quercetin in a delivery-food grade system with sunflower phospholipids (Quercetin Phytosome®, QP) increases its oral absorption up to 20-fold.

Authors: Saha JK, Raihan J PMID: 33867777 PMCID: PMC8039806 DOI: 10.1007/s11224-021-01776-0 Abstract In this study, we have investigated the binding mechanism of two FDA-approved drugs (ivermectin and levosalbutamol) with the spike protein of SARs-CoV-2 using three different computational modeling techniques. Molecular docking results predict that ivermectin shows a large binding affinity for spike protein (− [...]

Authors: Bello M PMID: 33843474 PMCID: PMC8054936 DOI: 10.1080/07391102.2021.1911857 Abstract Ivermectin (IVM) is an FDA-approved drug that has shown antiviral activity against a wide variety of viruses in recent years. IVM inhibits the formation of the importin-α/β1 heterodimeric complex responsible for the translocation and replication of various viral species proteins. Also, IVM hampers SARS-CoV-2 replication [...]

Authors: Idrees D, Kumar V PMID: 33789211 PMCID: PMC7988450 DOI: 10.1016/j.bbrc.2021.03.100 Abstract The post-infection of COVID-19 includes a myriad of neurologic symptoms including neurodegeneration. Protein aggregation in brain can be considered as one of the important reasons behind the neurodegeneration. SARS-CoV-2 Spike S1 protein receptor binding domain (SARS-CoV-2 S1 RBD) binds to heparin and heparin [...]
