This was an early attempt to convince the committee of the life-saving efficacy of our MATH+ Hospital Treatment Protocol for COVID-19, which included use of the steroid methylprednisolone to quell the deadly “cytokine storm,” resulting from the immune system’s overreaction to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This was the most common cause of death in COVID-19. But all governmental health agencies were recommending against the use of corticosteroids in treating COVID-19 at the time, and none adopted the MATH+ protocol following Dr. Kory’s testimony. But the efficacy of corticosteroids to combat the cytokine storm was confirmed weeks later, in the results of Oxford University’s so-called RECOVERY trial (June 2020). Only then did steroids become “standard of care” worldwide in hospital treatment for COVID-19, although the weaker and less effective dexamethasone was the steroid used.
