Dr. Umberto Meduri, Co-Founder and Senior Fellow, Medical and Research Integrity

Dr. Umberto Meduri, MD, is a prolific research scientist and a world-renowned expert in the treatment of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) with corticosteroids and treatment of severe pneumonia. His clinical and translational research has established him as the leading authority in this field. From 1997 to 2003, Dr. Meduri’s scientific contributions were so impactful that in 2004 he was recognized as having the highest individual impact factor among the world’s twenty leading investigators in Critical Care Medicine (Respiratory Care 2004).

During his tenure at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), Dr. Meduri’s team conducted seminal studies demonstrating that an inexpensive anti-inflammatory corticosteroid treatment, methylprednisolone, can effectively and safely reverse the ARDS disease process. His research has been foundational in critical care, influencing treatment protocols worldwide.

Dr. Meduri is the author of over 200 published articles, which have been cited more than 28,000 times in medical journals. His work continues to shape the field of critical care medicine, emphasizing the importance of scientific integrity and innovative research in improving patient outcomes.
