Dr. George Fareed, Senior Fellow, Family Medicine
Dr. George Fareed, MD, graduated with honors from Harvard Medical School in 1970. He pursued research on SV40 at the NIAID and served as faculty at both Harvard and UCLA during the early days of genetic engineering. In 1991, Dr. Fareed left the academic and biotechnology sectors to fulfill his passion for family medicine in an underserved region of California.
Recognizing the need for early HIV treatment, Dr. Fareed established HIV services for Imperial Valley in 1992, focusing on the use of antivirals to prevent the progression of HIV to AIDS. This experience with antiviral treatments proved invaluable thirty years later when he developed protocols for treating COVID-19. Together with his colleague Brian Tyson, he authored “Overcoming the COVID-19 Darkness: How Two Doctors Successfully Treated 7000 Patients,” documenting their approach and outcomes in managing the pandemic.
