<div>Their child had an adverse reaction to a prior vaccine. Has ADHD and mild autism, parents do not connect those issues with vaccines. Does not seem to have an immediate problem now.</div>

“My husband took our teenage twin sons (age 16) to their pediatrician for a routine physical on 4/2/24. We have declined vaccines since age 12 for personal reasons. The children were alone for their appointment for some of the time as the doctor asked to speak to my husband outside of the exam room. The nurse administered vaccines to one of my teens without parental or my child’s permission while my husband was out of the exam room. The vaccines he received were:

Menquadfi (protects against meningitis for variants A,C,Y,W)
Bexsero (protects against meningitis for variant B)

My husband found out this happened in between appointments and the other child did not get the vaccine because he told them not to. How is this legal? For them to administer a vaccine without parental permission? Is there no law that requires physicians to review vaccine information, sheets, the national vaccine injury compensation, or how to report a vaccine injury? We are not against vaccines but we do feel it is up to the parent (and teen if applicable) to decide if and which ones their children receive. Is this not a violation of our civil and parental rights?

We understand that our school district (Forest Hills School District) requires incoming 7th graders to have their first meningitis shot prior to 7th grade and Ohio requires 12th graders to get a booster of the meningitis vaccine once over the age of 16. But we also know there is a legal immunization exemption form (per Ohio Statute 3313.671) that can be filed if a family chooses not to have their child(ren) receive this vaccine. We did not know this form existed when our 16 year old twins were younger but are aware of this now and plan to utilize this for our current 6th grader.

I called the office to see why this was administered without parental permission. The doctor did call me back and basically said it was “his mistake, shouldn’t have been administered, and apologized”. We have documentation of all visit notes, messages, and voicemails; have filed a complaint with the Ohio Medical Board; and are pursuing legal action.”
